Explosion Track Club traveled to Waukesha, Wisconsin for its final meet before the national championships. Coach Jamo's Beast Squad recorded several personal records (PRs) en route to capturing both the men's and women's team titles.
Beast Squad Diva, Josie, led off the day of multiple PRs with a leap of 4.93 meters (16' 2") in the long jump. On the track, she recorded another PR, running 12.81 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Beast Squad Diva, Rashida added to the PR total, cruising to the finish line of the 200 meter dash in 28.57 seconds. The men joined the PR parade with a pair of record times in the 200 meter dash. Coach Jamo ran a speedy 24.41 seconds and yours truly clocked in at 23.79 seconds. Young gun, Pierre clocked the fastest times of the day: 22.68 seconds in the 200 meter dash and 10.93 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Both times qualify him for the USATF National Club Track & Field Championships. Not to be outdone, Coach Jamo also shined in the 100 meter dash, breaking the tape at a speedy 11.89 seconds. In addition to recording several PRs, all competitors placed 1st in their age group in each of their events and many achieved National Masters News All-America status. Though fun, the day was about more than just recording PRs and winning gold. By capturing team titles, Explosion was awarded a $600 travel reimbursement grant for the Club National Championships! Next up for the team is a pair of national championships later this month. Pierre will travel to Tacoma to participate in the Club National Championships. On the opposite coast, the Masters athletes will compete in the USATF Masters Outdoor Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
